Plot Summary Of The Platform 1

Released in 2019, “The Platform” is a gripping Spanish dystopian film set in a towering prison called “The Pit.” The story centres on Goreng, who willingly enters this harsh environment to earn a diploma. In this prison, each level holds two inmates, and a platform loaded with food descends from the top, stopping briefly at every floor. The catch? Inmates can only eat while the platform is at their level, creating a brutal fight for survival, especially for those on the lower levels who often go hungry.

Each month, the prisoners are randomly moved to different levels, leading to a mix of hope and despair. One intriguing character, Miharu, searches for her missing child, adding another layer to the story. As Goreng navigates this challenging world, he faces tough decisions about what’s right and wrong. The film wraps up with a powerful and uncertain message about sacrifice and hope, leaving viewers with plenty to think about.

Plot Summary Of The Platform 2

In “The Platform 2,” the story continues in the same tough vertical prison, where inmates deal with a cruel food system. The new main character, Perempuán, is on a lower level with another prisoner, Zamiatin. They have to follow strict rules about eating, enforced by a group called the Loyalists.

As Perempuán and Zamiatin work together to survive, they face dangers from the Loyalists and other desperate inmates. The movie looks at survival, right and wrong, and how people can keep going in hard situations. Perempuán struggles to stay human while facing the harsh system.

The film builds up to a moment when Perempuán tries to escape the prison, leading to a tense ending that makes viewers think about what freedom and justice really mean. Will Perempuán’s daring escape change her fate, or will the harsh rules of the prison catch up with her?

What Do Perempuán And Zamiatin Discuss About The Prison Rules Along With The Two Guys Above Them?

As the big guy reaches for a chicken wing, the prisoners above him shout, “No, no, no!” It turns out there are rules they must follow: they can either eat their own food or swap it with someone else. The big guy smirks and responds, “You mean the law that everyone ignores? I love pizza, and mine is more than half-eaten.” The men above say they’ll handle it tomorrow, but warn him that he can’t just eat whatever he wants like a barbarian. The big guy retorts, “No, the real barbarians are the ones on level 21 who ate my food.” He insists he has the right to eat, but before he can finish his thought, the two above remind him, “You are entitled to our protection as Loyalists. Yes, we’re working on it.”

“If this is how you Loyalists handle things, we’re going to have a problem,” the big guy replies. The man above explains, “It’s a challenge, but since the pollution of solidarity began, the distribution is becoming fairer each month. With everyone’s help, even the lowest levels will have a chance soon. If you eat someone else’s food, that person will feel wronged and entitled to take what they want. This harms others, which creates a domino effect, leaving those at the bottom with nothing.”

The big guy struggles against his desire for the chicken wing, trying to hold back temptation. “Are you done?” he asks. The man above says, “Listen, dumbass, that’s what will happen if you eat that wing.” Perempuán then offers him her croquettes and tosses one to him. He lets go of the chicken wing and eats the croquette instead.

The guy above urges them to eat quickly before the platform starts to drop. He warns that the administration doesn’t allow them to keep food and will punish anyone who tries. The big guy questions why the administration doesn’t punish those on level 2 who ate his pizza. The two men explain, “We created the rule about sticking to our own meals, not the administration. Remember, you were lucky to wake up on level 24 this month. Next time, you could end up on a much lower level. What you’ve done today is honourable; just respect others and keep your level in order. Don’t let the Pit defeat you.”

The lady then asks him, “What’s your name?” He replies, “Zamiatin.” She introduces herself, “Perempuán.”

How Does Witnessing The Woman Being Burned Show The Harsh Reality Of The Fight Over Food?

The Loyalists, led by Dagin Babi, enforce strict rules in the prison. When the food platform reaches Perempuán and Zamiatin’s level, they witness another inmate trying to take extra food. To make an example of him, Dagin Babi orders a harsh punishment, and the inmate is beaten badly. This shocking display of violence frightens Perempuán and the others, showing just how far the Loyalists will go to keep control. Seeing this cruelty makes Perempuán start to doubt the fairness of the Loyalists, planting ideas of rebellion in her mind.

In another intense moment, a woman gets set on fire as punishment by the Loyalists. When an inmate breaks the rules, they use a makeshift flamethrower against her. This horrifying act serves as a warning to everyone else and strengthens Perempuán’s resolve to fight back against the harsh system. These scenes are key because they reveal the harsh reality of life in the prison and mark important turning points for Perempuán, pushing her to question and eventually stand up against the brutal rules.

How Does Zamiatin Die?

Zamiatin’s health takes a serious turn, marking a key point in the story. The tough prison environment starts to affect him badly. In spite of the harsh conditions around them, Perempuán decides to look after him. She uses whatever small resources they have to provide care, showing true compassion and humanity amid the chaos.

Perempuán faces a difficult challenge while trying to care for Zamiatin. Without access to proper medical supplies and facing threats from other inmates, it becomes a daunting task. Unfortunately, despite her best efforts, Zamiatin’s health continues to decline. He becomes increasingly paranoid due to his failures and the oppressive atmosphere of the prison. This paranoia eventually leads him to take his own life, leaving Perempuán heartbroken.

Zamiatin’s death is a heavy emotional blow for Perempuán, emphasising the harsh and dehumanising conditions they face in prison.

Perempuán and her cellmate, along with others, boldly decide to go down to the next level to fight for justice. With the prison rules in chaos, they risk everything to make a change. As they descend, they encounter Deva and Main Andar, who join their brutal fight.

During the chaos, Perempuán discovers her cellmate is not new; she has been in the prison for six months. She shares her experiences, revealing how she learned about the unfair laws that only protect the meals prisoners order. Usually, they respect the rules, but her cellmate, starving, takes food from a deceased inmate, getting more than her fair share.

Days later, Dagin Babi, the strictest enforcer, arrives and punishes them for breaking the rules. When her cellmate fights back, Dagin gouges her eyes out and leaves her tied up and defenseless on the platform, where Perempuán must watch as other inmates eat her alive. In that moment, her cellmate tells Perempuán, “We will never be safe inside this pit.”

Before this tragedy, her cellmate reveals their escape plan: at the end of each month, the pit resets, using a gas called sevoflurane. They intend to escape then. Perempuán asks, “But how will we stay awake?” Her cellmate admits she has searched for it monthly but found nothing. If they find it, they’ll only have one chance, and they need to keep going down.

What Happens To Perempuán And Her Cellmate?

Dagin and his followers come to Perempuán’s level, claiming they’ve heard remarkable things about her and her cellmate’s determination to engage in delinquency. He announces that today they can drink as much wine as they want with their food, and his followers force them to eat.

Dagin asserts that eating is a duty, requiring strong people to uphold the law. He then whistles, and his followers grab Perempuán’s cellmate, attacking her. Dagin demands to know why they allowed the delinquents to act freely. A man tries to explain but is silenced. Dagin mocks him, stating he’ll enjoy wine with his last meal before being executed for abandoning his duties. He claims that the excuse of the disloyal cannot justify the just.

Turning to Perempuán, Dagin accuses her of an offense and threatens to cut off her arm. She protests, “Don’t punish us for defending the law!” Dagin responds that those who breach the law cannot defend it and warns that self-interest will corrupt the law. He reveals he has lost both eyes, showing the price paid to reach this point.

He then tells Perempuán’s cellmate that she hasn’t learned her lesson and deserves the same fate. Both women are brutally punished, with the cellmate stripped naked and tied to the meal platform while Perempuán watches helplessly.

The ending makes people think about sacrifice, staying alive, and what it means to be human. It’s a strong finish that matches the dark and serious tone of the movie.
