Yeong-ha reviews footage from Yong-chae’s car and is deeply disturbed by what he finds. Though the footage itself isn’t shown, it clearly holds key evidence regarding Sung-a and Si-hyeon’s stay. Yeong-ha’s choice to erase the footage and keep it from Bo-min, the local police captain, adds to the intrigue and raises doubts about his reasons for doing so. Overwhelmed with emotions and mixed feelings, Yeong-ha even reaches for his phone to call 911 but stops himself. He talks to himself, questioning whether his thoughts are utterly ridiculous. What Happens When Yoo Seong-A Confronts Jae-Sik About Their Son Si-Hyeon?
Yoo Seong-A unexpectedly encounters Jae-Sik in the parking lot. Without warning, he slips into the passenger seat of her car, catching her by surprise. “Long time no see,” he says, looking directly at her. Seong-A, keeping her cool, responds, “Looks like prison,” before agreeing and adding, “You’re looking good.” Jae-Sik thanks her, saying it’s all thanks to her. She lightly jokes that she should have sent him an invitation and comments on how difficult the gallery must have been to find. Jae-Sik pulls out a card, explaining that he thought it was his invitation, which he found on the street along with a small note for her. Seong-A glances at it, hands it back, and says, “Since you’re already here, take a look. Think of Si-Hyeon while you’re at it.”
Jae-Sik, almost speechless, stares at her as she exits the car. Quickly, he follows her, chasing her in frustration. Although Seong-A tries to escape, he catches up to her, slamming her head against the glass wall and grabbing her by the hair. But instead of fear, Seong-A laughs, hitting him back before making another run for it. A heated fight breaks out between the two, with Seong-A yelling, “Are you crazy?” Jae-Sik, anger boiling over, shouts back, “Me? A domestic abuser?” He demands answers, asking why she didn’t just kill him if she hated him so much. “Why did you take it out on Si-Hyeon?” he asks.
Seong-A, furious, responds, “What kind of mother would kill her own child?” Jae-Sik, gripping her face tightly, pleads for her to listen, asking, “Just this once, please…” But Seong-A coldly reveals, “I never hated you. It was our son. I hated him.” She pushes him away, leaving Jae-Sik stunned. He asks, “What did he ever do wrong?” Seong-A’s response is distant, explaining that it was simply exhausting to see their son every day.
Jae-Sik, filled with regret, says she should have told him how she felt. But Seong-A, with bitterness in her voice, replies that’s exactly what others wanted—for her to give up. Shaken, Jae-Sik reminds her that their son loved and trusted her, to which Seong-A bitterly confesses that the boy once asked if she was truly his mother. She pushes Jae-Sik again, furious, and asks why he didn’t tell their son the truth—that his mother had left him at birth. Jae-Sik, clearly in pain, tells her he couldn’t say such a thing to a child. Seong-A, without sympathy, replies that letting their son believe she was his mother was her punishment for choosing him. She reveals she had to pretend to love the boy, then questions whether Jae-Sik married her only to be a mother to his child.
In silence, Jae-Sik listens as Seong-A explains that she did what she had to do to find the truth. She tells him not to ask questions if he isn’t ready for the answers.
