Plot Summary
The plotline of ‘My Spy: The Eternal City’ is about a CIA agent named JJ. He and his team are tracking a thumb drive which leads to the location of multiple nukes. But before they could get hold of it, their agent with the thumb drive is killed by a goon named Bishop Crane. One day, when Sophie’s school choir is selected to be part of a prestigious musical event among the top five, JJ is persuaded to accompany his daughter as a chaperone to her school trip to Italy. However, the trip turns into a nightmare when the stepfather-daughter duo are entrapped by a terrorist who also abducts one of Sophie’s friends. The terrorist threatens to blow up the Vatican, risking the lives of hundreds of students who were participating in the event. On the other hand, Sophie has love issues to solve. She has a crush on her childhood sweetheart, Ryan. Sophie often fantasizes about having him as her boyfriend and tries her best to win him by any chance. Unless! She is intruded upon by her stepdad who always keeps an eye on Sophie. The movie is about how the father-daughter duo solve their indifferences in this tumultuous journey.
What Happens in Rome?
Sophie heads to Rome along with her schoolmates where her school choir is selected to compete for a musical show. Thrilled for her trip, Sophie makes a plan to explore Florence with Ryan and Collin. Little did they know that they were being followed by a vicious man who had evil plans. When the trio decided to snuck out during the night, they somehow got caught by JJ. He allows them some 35 minutes before returning back to their hotel. Sophie’s friend, Collin, knew about Sophie’s crush, so he makes an excuse to leave so that Sophie and Ryan could spend some quality time together. However, Collin is kidnapped by some goons.
How are Mr. Kim & JJ Entrapped By The Goons?
Mr. Kim gets a call from Bishop Crane, who kidnapped his son. They threaten him to come to Rome who knows a way to get into the NATO base where hundreds of nukes are stored. He devises a plan along with JJ to catch the kidnappers but they had to risk their lives as breaking into the vault was not a piece of cake. They head to the MI6 house to take the weapons for their mission. Mr. Kim receives a picture from his son. Thinking he has sent the location from his kidnapping site, they follow the route but it turns fatal for them as it was a trap.
Why was Bishop following JJ?
Bishop was after JJ and Kim’s life as they were the only way which could lead him to the mass destruction weapons. Bishop was Nancy Buck’s assistant. He was behind Colin’s kidnapping and he also killed their agent who had the thumb drive. Bishop Crane is selfish and only believes in serving his boss.
Who Was Mrs. Buck?
Mrs. Nancy Buck is the real culprit in the story. She is the terrorist and the mafia behind the whole kidnapping. She disguises herself as the vice principal of Sophie’s school to reach JJ. She planned to destroy the Vatican City and wanted access to nukes. JJ and his chief who were working with the CIA were the only source which could help her in her mission. She devises a distraction plan for JJ and his team. She informs them that her people are “financially frozen” because of the CIA and if they fail to give her billions of dollars, she would blow up the city.
Does JJ Make it Towards The End?
When JJ and his team learns about the bomb, they try their best to detonate it. JJ chases Crane who has the detonator. Meanwhile, Sophie also follows them despite being instructed by JJ to leave Vatican city. JJ and Crane get into a fight, and the van with the detonator rolls into the water. JJ jumps into the water to retrieve the device and manages to deactivate the bomb. On the other hand, Colin follows Nancy. He uses a trick to trap her until she is captured by his dad and his team. JJ is saved by Sophie in the end and the two finally bond as father and dad as Sophie accepts him as her dad.
