Kang-moo, who once worked in intelligence and now lives a peaceful life, encounters Hee-joo, a former colleague, under tense circumstances. Hee-joo is fighting and fleeing from a group of men trying to capture her when Kang-moo intervenes, rescuing her without initially realising her identity. After the skirmish, a report card falls from Hee-joo’s possession, which Kang-moo discovers and recognizes as hers. They then walk to a nearby bus stand and sit down together.

As they wait for the bus, Kang-moo remarks that it’s been a while and asks how she has been. Hee-joo, with a touch of humour, comments on the strange nature of their reunion. Kang-moo inquires about the men who were after her and whether she is still involved in her previous line of work. Hee-joo reveals that she has been discharged and reflects on how she eventually moved on from her uniform. When Kang-moo questions if the men are connected to Jung-san, Hee-joo insists that it’s a matter she must handle alone and urges him to stay out of it. She stands to leave, but Kang-moo asks her to look at him and tells her it’s okay to confide in him. She then admits that Jung-san is missing.

After a brief, comforting hug, Hee-joo pulls away, telling him to forget what she just revealed and to pretend he didn’t hear it. She quickly takes a taxi and departs, leaving Kang-moo with a sense of concern and urgency.
