Plot Summary
The story is about a grandfather and grandson who cons people to earn wealth. Lolo, the grandfather, uses his grandson Kid, and together as a team they con childless couples and pretend to let them adopt Kid. But when night comes, both of them run away after stealing valuable items from wealthy families.
How Lol And Kid Con People?
The film starts with Lolo and Kid executing their plan of conning a childless couple. The first scene shows how a couple feels empty without a child while Kid is living on the streets with Lolo. This attracts the woman’s attention. The next morning, the couple approaches Lolo and invites them over to their house and expresses their interest in adopting the child. Grandpa Lolo readily accepts as everything is going according to his plan. He receives money from his husband and leaves. Night falls and after everyone is asleep, Kid is seen to run away after stealing valuable things from the house along with Lolo, who is waiting right outside the gate. They sell all the stolen items in a pawn shop.
How Do Lolo And Kid Spend Their Money?
Lolo and Kid use the money they receive for clothes, to enjoy themselves in games at an arcade and in the amusement park, and later on, they go to a karaoke as a part of routine to drink and sing the only song they know, ‘Through The Years’. But at the end of the night, Kid is tired and asleep on Lolo’s back, and they go back to a motel to rest before going out again tomorrow morning to start with the routine of conning people again.
Who Ignited Kid’s Wish To Study?
The next day, Lolo goes out in search of a second victim, who ends up being a single woman. Lolo and Kid start plotting to gain the sympathy of that woman. As a part of the plan, they sleep just beside that woman’s house to get her attention, wondering if she saw them. Just like their every other plan, the woman invites them over to her house for food and to talk. She asks him if he has ever gone to school, to which the kid replies he does not study, because they don’t have money. She invited them to stay at her house. Kid was influenced by listening to her story, which made Lolo think of Kid’s future too. At night, Kid comes to Lolo’s room and plans to leave before she wakes up. But they were seen by the woman from above her room when they were running away. Their cycle of using money starts again. Lolo gets drunk and Kid helps him to go back to the hotel. But Kid could not forget that woman’s words about school, but Lolo consoles himself, saying he can learn everything that is taught in the school in the streets. The next day, again, Lolo goes out in search of their next victim, leaving Kid alone near an ice cream stand. But when he returned, Kid was nowhere to be seen. Lolo started searching for the Kid and found him standing near a school.
How Did a Kid Meet With An Accident?
The next victim Lolo is found to con is a gay couple who also shows interest in adopting Kid. Just like always at night, Kid steals from their house and tries to run away. But this time they are seen by the couple who comes running after them. But when they reached the main road, Lolo crossed the road, but Kid couldn’t. He was hit by a car. But at that time, the gay couple shows up chasing them and help Lolo call an ambulance and take Kid to a hospital. They confront Lolo for using Kid to steal money and ask them to leave and never show up in front of them or Kid. Lolo leaves thinking Kid should live with them and have a good life. But Kid runs away from the hospital and comes back to Lolo because, according to him, they are ‘partners forever’.
What Is That One Wish Kid Always Had?
Kid always wanted to go to the beach and play, but Lolo always refused his wish because they didn’t have enough money. But after the accident, Lolo decides to take Kid to the beach to play. And the next day they leave for vacation. They played and bathed in the sea the entire day and in the evening Lolo sat with Kid to take a photo of them. Kid found the book in a trash can and asked Lolo to read it for him, which is about a king. The story made Lolo remember how he found Kid in a trash can, when he was about to kill himself. Kid becomes his savior and also the reason to stay alive and keep going.
Why Did Lolo Decide To Let Go Of Kid?
After coming back home, Lolo takes Kid to a couple who lost their child to cancer. They showed their wish to adopt Kid and treat him like their second child. The woman even told Lolo that they had lost their will to live until they saw Lolo and Kid outside their house and got to know about Kid. They even expressed their desire to help Lolo and promised he could come to their house whenever he missed Kid. Lolo leaves Kid for them and, just like a routine, Kid comes out of the house at night after stealing, but finds the gate locked. Lolo tells Kid to live with them. They are good people, and maybe he will forgive Lolo one day for leaving him behind. Lolo has ultimately given Kid to good people for adoption, for Kid’s future. Kid escapes from the house and rushes to Fatty’s pawn shop crying, looking for his grandfather because he couldn’t believe that Lolo would ever leave him. But Fatty tells him he doesn’t know where Lolo has gone.
Lolo And The Kid Ending Explained
The film fast-forwards to when Kid has grown up to be a young graduate man. Kid has well-adjusted in the adoptive family but can’t stop himself from gazing at the door wishing for his grandfather to come. One day, Kid gets a call from a hospital which is from his grandfather who is on his deathbed. Kid takes Lolo to their usual childhood place in a wheelchair for a visit and the first place has to be Fatty’s pawn shop where Lolo sells the camera he took from Fatty once. Then he took Lolo to the karaoke where they used to regularly visit, and they sang their usual song ‘Through The Years’, and Lolo, while singing, sat beside the person he loved the most. While Lolo is being taken away on a stretcher, Kid finds a box in Lolo’s bag full of Kid’s pictures from when he was a child till the pictures of his graduation. Kid didn’t know that Lolo was always looking after Kid from afar. The kid couldn’t stop himself from crying seeing the pictures.
