The celebrated director Marcos Carnevale has created a compelling narrative that will evoke a feeling of empathy in a viewer’s mind. Plot Summary
The movie ‘Goyo’ depicts the life of a man with Asperger’s syndrome. Despite his condition, his family, colleagues, and friends treat him normally. Goyo works as a museum guide and falls in love with a woman he sees one day. He starts to paint her portrait thinking her as his muse. Goyo is a knowledgeable person and knows a lot about art and history. When he discovers Eva works at his museum, his attraction grows. Goyo gathers courage to ask her out, and they end up spending the night together. They enjoy their time together and Goyo falls head over heels for her, unaware of the fact that Eva only thought of him as a friend. However, when the woman’s abusive husband returns, Goyo gets hurt defending her. Eva asks Goyo to stay away due to the conflict. Devastated, Goyo ends up in the hospital. Will they have a chance to reconcile?
Why Is Goyo Jilted By Eva?
Eva is going through a tough marriage. She has an abusive relationship with her husband who never respects her. She is a single mother who has the responsibility of two kids. When Goyo finds out about Eva’s husband, he meets him at his workplace. Unfortunately, things turn sour between them and he punches Goyo. Eva is frustrated to learn about it. She yells at Goyo for crossing the line. She tells him that whatever they had was a mistake and he has no right to protect her. She also makes him realise that she can’t love him back because Eva has lost faith after being with unfaithful partners in her past. Goyo is traumatized by her response as his condition makes the situation even worse. He ends up in the hospital. She meets Goyo’s sister at the hospital and enquires about his condition. She acknowledges her fault and says that she never wanted to hurt him and apologises for her conduct.
Who Is Magdalena?
Magdalena enters the scene when Goyo is going through a troublesome stage of his life. She is none other than Goyo’s mother and Saula’s stepmother. Magdalena remains with Goyo through thick and thin when he is rejected by Eva and goes into a devastated state of mind. She teaches him life’s genuine lessons. One of them was that as we age, we tend to disregard things and vital things turn into a memory. She encourages to begin his life afresh. But when his sister, Saula listens their discussion she tells Magdalena to abstain from doing it. Saula also secretly despised her as she held her responsible for her father’s death. Magdalena also educates Goyo that a muse enters an artist’s life to provide him inspiration and fill it with illumination, even if it is for a brief time.
Does Goyo And Eva Reconcile?
Goyo was touched by Magdalena’s lessons. During her concert, Goyo goes into a different mode as he remembers his beloved. When he closes his eyes, he could only see Eva’s happy face. He therefore makes the decision to see her in person and present her with the portrait he created while observing her as the muse. He recognizes that the moment he saw Eva, his life totally changed and she is the one with whom he wants to spend the rest of his life. She truly served as his life’s inspiration.
It starts to rain as soon as Goyo leaves his house to meet Eva and confess his feelings for her, transporting us back to the moment when Goyo first saw Eva. When they finally meet, Goyo asks Eva if she truly believes that their date was a mistake when they first meet. She regrets for what she said and tells him that she thinks she is flawed. To her reply, Goyo says that everyone is flawed but he thinks of her as an empowered woman. He confesses his love for Eva and the two reunite at last.
