Plot Summary
Pia and Jan have been dating each other for a month and one day when Jan decides to make a plan with Pia, she tells him about her regular game night with her friends. This time Jan decides to tag along with her, and this is also the first time he will be meeting her friends, which puts him under pressure to make good decisions to make a good first impression. At the same time, he is oblivious that things are about to go wrong on the game night.
Why Jan Decides to Go To The Game Night With Pia?
The movie starts by showing the happy relationship between Pia and Jan, and one morning Jan comes up with a plan to cook something for dinner instead of going out, that’s when Pia says that she can’t be with him tonight because she is meeting her friends and that the ritual of game night is sacred and their tradition, so she can’t skip it. Pia invites Jan to come with her to meet her friends because they haven’t met Jan yet. Karo always hosts the game nights at her house in Grunewald, which is also a posh place. Jan’s best friend Alex warns Jan about Grunewald and how he is not suitable for a high-rise housing estate and that he will be judged by her friends. Alex also suggests bringing Karo a gift and to give her compliments to make a good impression.
Why Did Alex Come To Karo’s Place?
After making the first introductions with the friends, Jan goes to attend to Alex’s phone call and ends up in Oliver’s study room where his pet cockatoo, Helmut Kohl, lives. While talking to Alex, Jan opens the window and the bird flies away, creating trouble for Jan. Alex thinks Jan is in trouble and asks him to say ‘marmalade toast’, which is also their code word, but because of some network issue, Jan says ‘no marmalade toast’ and Alex hears ‘marmalade toast’ and so he comes to his friend’s rescue in Grunewald.
Who Is The Surprise Visitor?
Pia’s ex-boyfriend, Mathias, suddenly shows up on the game night, which creates an uncomfortable situation for both Pia and Jan. On the other hand, Mathias came with a motive to show Pia how he is better than Jan and wants to win her back. During the game of Trivia Pursuit, Oliver continues to bring out cards and the answer to which only Mathias knows and continues to show Pia slide shows and even sings a song to show Pia how they are meant to be together. Mathias even blamed Jan for sending a message to Sheila’s ex-girlfriend which he didn’t even do. Mathias even exposes the fact that he and Pia were engaged, which makes Jan angry because Pia kept it a secret.
What Is The Game Of ‘Who Would’?
For the game night, Jan also arranged a game of ‘Who Would’ where various embarrassing questions are asked and the person who gets the most votes will have to take a shot. The friends, including Jan, bring out writing pads and shots to start playing the game. Jan starts being passive-aggressive against Mathias because he has had enough of being humiliated by him. Everyone continues with the game and Oliver and Matthias’ egos are hurt because of certain provocative questions. Oliver gets angry at the entire group for making fun of his role-playing. He decides to end the game, dressed up as Ogandur, the almighty king of the elves, and starts playing on his computer.
Why Did Mathias and Jan Start The Game Of Naked Pingpong?
Mathias and Jan take the dare to play naked ping pong, as it was said in the Who Would game, to show off their superiority against the wish of Pia, while whoever loses will have to drink an entire bottle of spicy chili sauce. At the beginning of the game, Jan was in a tough position and almost lost against Mathias, but with the progress of the game, Jan started to gain back his pace and won the match. As promised, Mathias drank the chilly sauce which is too hot for him to handle. Pia gets angry on Jan for behaving like a child, they fight and Jan leaves.
Did Jan Find Helmut Kohl?
Jan decides to leave the house angrily with his friend, but Alex can’t find his bike keys and guesses he might have lost them when he was caught in the net. On the other hand, Oliver is angry that Jan lost his pet bird. While in search of the keys, Jan and Alex get caught again in the net made for catching wild boars. Karo’s neighbor comes to their help, he even has Helmut Kohl in his hands. The neighbour helps them get out of the net and gives them the bird he has subdued to return to Oliver. Jan visits Oliver’s house again, returns the bird and gets to know that everyone has gone to the zoo because of Mathias.
Why Did Everyone Go To The Zoo?
After Jan leaves, Pia gets a call from Mathias expressing how much he loves her and confesses he can even fight a tiger for her. Immediately, they went to the zoo in search of Mathias. Jan, Alex and Kurt joined them too. Once inside the zoo, Pia rings Mathias’ phone and finds it ringing inside the tiger’s den. Jan immediately goes inside the tiger’s den in search of Mathias, but he can’t be seen. When he was trying to get up, Jan lost a footing and the commotion woke the sleeping tiger up, but the friends saved Jan with a rope in the nick of time.
Blame The Game Ending Explained
The night ended well with Jan being rescued, and he made up with Pia. While they saw Mathias not in the tiger’s den, he went to the vending machine to get some water. Karo and Oliver reconcile when Oliver says he has nothing going on with their maid Gabriella. He is just learning how to dance with her as an anniversary surprise for Karo. Sheila also talks with her ex-girlfriend and decides to move on from her. Again four weeks later, Jan was seen making himself an omelette when Pia entered the room saying she wasn’t going for the games night. To his surprise, although Jan and Pia didn’t go for the games night, friends came over to Jan’s apartment to play.
