Netflix’s upcoming release is a science-fiction film titled, ‘Atlas’ featuring actor Jennifer Lopez in the lead role as she squares off with an AI to save humanity. Besides being a sci-fi thriller, the film is based on the theme of love and friendship, how two strangers (a human and a robot) form a bond of trust under disastrous circumstances. ‘Atlas’ will be released on Netflix on Friday, 24 May 2024.
What Is ‘Atlas’ About?
Directed by Brad Peyton, the film follows a brilliant analyst living in a futuristic world with a deep mistrust of AI. Things turn worse when she is sent to another planet on a mission to hunt down a malevolent robot named Harlan. But….here’s the twist. Her only chance to win against the robot is to team up with another AI who is named Smith. “I don’t need your help. I don’t trust any AI,” tells enraged ‘Atlas’ when he offers help. However, as they strive to defeat Harlan, she slowly grows to trust him. Will they be able to save the world from doom?

Who Is in the Cast?
The action packed film comes with a huge cast including actors Jennifer Lopez as Atlas Shepherd, Simu Liu as Harlan the robot, Sterling K. Brown as Colonel Elias Banks, Gregory James Cohan as Smith, Abraham Popoola as Casca Descius, Lana Parrilla as Val Shepherd and Mark Strong as General Jake Boothe.
Jennifer Lopez plays the role of Atlas Shepherd who is a data analyst and an agent. She embarks on a mission to hunt a rogue robot named Harlan, played by Simu Liu.
Jennifer Lopez was last seen in 2024 musical ‘This is me…Now’. She also starred as the US army operative in The Mother which is a 2023 action thriller.
Simu Liu became famous after bagging the Game Changer Award and People’s Choice Award for his role as Shang-Chi in Marvel’s 2021 action-packed thriller, Shang Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings.
Sterling K. Brown is a three time Emmy award winning actor and is widely known for starring in NBC’s ‘This is Us’. He was awarded his first Oscar for his role in the critically-acclaimed film ‘American Fiction’.

‘Atlas’ is directed by Brad Peyton who describes the film as, “a story about trust, finding connection in unexpected places, and yes, a little bit of a love story too.” The script of the film is penned down by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite.
How Did the Fans React?
The trailer has received mixed reviews. Some fans have compared the trailer to ‘Titanfall’, a video game series. One user wrote, “You can’t tell me this is not HEAVILY inspired by TITANFALL bruh…” Others praise Lopez for her outstanding acting,

What to Expect?
The trailer hints at a high-tech futuristic film packed with chilling action sequences as giant action robots set out to spill carnage in outer space. The story revolved around the bond between a human and a robot.
Robots and AI have been the genre of many films in the past, most of them did exceptionally well at the box-office. The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951), Wall-E (2008), The Terminator (1984), Her (2013) to name a few.
