If yes, then Netflix’s latest release is a must watch for you. ‘A Journey’ is an emotional Filipino film that talks about the true bond of friendship and undying love. Released on April 12, 2024; this tear-jerker promises to melt your heart with its overwhelming storyline. This bittersweet tale is directed by RC Delos Reyes starring Kaye Abad as Shane who owns a cafe, Paolo Contis as Bryan who works as a PA for his best friend and Patrick Garcia as Kristoff aka Tupe who is an accomplished actor. The story revolves around a cancer patient who embarks on a journey to Tasmania with her husband and her friend to check-off her bucket list.
Plot Summary
The scene opens with Bryan singing on a Karaoke night for his beloved wife, Shane. They are celebrating her 39th birthday. The couple is joined by Tupe who is their childhood buddy and their best friend. However, a devastating news turns their lives upside down when Shane comes to learn that her cancer has returned. She refuses to receive the treatment and expresses her desire to fulfill her dreams through her ‘magic list’. And so, Bryan and Tupe decide to accompany her on a trip to Tasmania which leaves an everlasting impact on their lives. But, that’s not all. Oblivious to what was waiting for them next, they face a terrible incident which changes everything.
What is the bad news about?
When Shane learns about the recurrence of her cancer she is shattered completely. After gathering up some courage she decides to tell her husband about it who breaks into tears as soon as he hears it. When Bryan offers her to get the treatment she rejects stating that she is tired of crying over her past and wants to live her life to the fullest.
How Bryan and Tupe found out about Shane’s magic list?
When Bryan learns about Shane’s condition he decides to quit his job as he wants to spend as much time as possible with his wife. Shane also shows him her ‘magic list’ which consists of all the things she wishes to do before the time comes. The list included things like fixing funeral details, donating clothes, fixing finances, eating exotic foods and so on. Later, Shane reveals the news to Tupe when he visits their home. He is surprised to see that Shane refuses to go for chemo but wants to do her magic list. Then Bryan asks Tupe’s help to complete her magic list.
Why does Tupe get admitted to a hospital?

During the shoot of his film, Tupe asks his co-star to join him for a date. His friend tries to warn him before going out with her. He tells him that she is Delgado Mall’s girlfriend who is a big time criminal but Kristoff ignores him and takes her to his home. To their surprise, they are caught red-handed by Delgado as he sees them having some intimate time together. Furious from witnessing such a scene Delgado’s men start to kick him ferociously. They beat him black and blue and he lands in a hospital.
Why did the trio decide to visit Tasmania?
On a short trip, Tupe gifts a ticket to Shane who is surprised to learn that they will be watching the ‘smallest penguins’ over there. Tasmania was everything Shane could have asked for. It included pretty much everything on Shane’s list including exploring different places, penguins and Mr.T (Shane’s dad).

As the trio head out to see the penguins in Tasmania, they come across a Penguin mascot who waves at them. Bryan suggests Shane to get a picture clicked with him. As Shane was engaged in a fun banter with Bryan, the mascot reveals himself to her. Shane is overwhelmed to see that the mascot was nobody but her dad whom she longed to meet since she was a little girl. She hugs him with teary-eyes.
What happens to Bryan?
After returning from their fun-filled trip to Tasmania, Bryan becomes unconscious and collapses. Shane rushes him to the hospital where after certain trials he is declared dead by the doctors due to aneurysm.
Who gives a surprise visit to Shane?

Shane gets a surprise visit in her cafe from Ogie Alcasid, a famous Filipino singer, who was on her magic list as well. He hands her the bouquet and tells her that he was asked to visit her by someone. As Ogie begins to sing for her, tears start to roll down her cheeks as Olgie starts to sing the same song which Bryan sang on her 39th birthday. She remembers her late husband while listening to him.
Ending Explained, What is Tupe’s ultimate decision?
‘A Journey’ ends on a heartfelt note. In the climax, Tupe follows the advice from Bryan and decides to take up a challenge. He directs a movie based on the love story of his friends and wins an award for the best actor. Later, Tupe visits Shane who is seen lying in her bed completely withered. He dedicates the award to Shane and Bryan thanking them for teaching him the meaning of love.
