Recap of “Heartbreak High” Season 1
Amerie (Ayesha Madon) and Harper (Asher Yasbincek) have been best friends since they were little. They created a “sex map” at their school, Hartley High. It is a map that lists who has hooked up with whom in their class. It is kept in the abandoned stairwell. They figured it out by listening to gossip and observing other people.
Something bad happened between Amerie and Harper while attending a music festival. After that, Harper avoided speaking to Amerie again. The sex map was discovered on the first day of school, and it had very bad consequences. Some relationships between the students changed drastically.
Amerie was blamed by the principal for the map, but she did not want Harper to get into trouble too. Before Amerie could reach out to her, she met her best friend with a short hairstyle and an angry look, hellbent on avoiding her.
In school, everybody began detesting Amerie due to the map, claiming she was infringing upon people’s privacy. Despite her efforts to speak with Harper, they fought instead of reconciling their differences. The principal was concerned about all these things happening at school, so she started a special class. To JoJo Obah, the teacher of this class, it felt old-fashioned.
Only Darren (James Majoos) and Quinni (Chloe Hayden) supported Amerie during this time. Following a rude, “kebab flaps’ comment made against her by somebody else, Quinni went ahead with research on different types of labias.
The end of the season saw Amerie recall what happened at the festival after she recovered from drugs and alcohol. She realizes her mistake of hooking up with Spider instead of being there for Harper, who was dying to talk to her, but she ignored him. This decision had dire consequences, destroying their friendship.
Harper bravely files a report about her sexual assault case without mentioning the names of those responsible due to security reasons. Her father, Jason, emerges in this novel, not recognizing her and thinking that she is a thief. The pandemonium ends with Harper landing in foster care.
Harper’s dad later breaks down again, and temporarily out of self-defense, Harper hurts him. For this, she blamed Amerie, who wasn’t by her side when it truly counted. They finally agree to go to the police concerning the assault; however, Harper hesitates to give names because she has nothing solid to back them up, fearing for her safety.

A creep steals Harper’s bag and puts it on the school ground with a dead bird on top. Amerie and her friends name the creep Bird Psycho and think that it’s Chook’s doing.
PE teacher Timothy Voss, who has strong opinions about school and the world at large, has returned this season too. Jojo’s classes were going just fine, but Spider and his friends felt left out. Harper, on the other hand, had PTSD and a fear of trouble at school that might be linked to Chook, whose car they burned down. Spider and Ant are unhappy after Dusty was sent away from class too; besides, they have a feeling that boys may not be fairly treated in Jojo’s classes.
Therefore, Voss initiates a new club for the boys to balance things up. Amerie and her friends are caught ransacking Chook’s house to find out if he is Bird Psycho, but he tells them that he is not. Bird Psycho keeps tormenting Amerie and Harper. Surprisingly, Amerie decides to run for the post of school captain against Spider and Sasha.
